Ride 7 - The WIND

Image
Ride 7 - November 26, 2021 -  Our final rides always have little fanfare, as it's become somewhat of a tradition as we start our hiking phase to get through the winter months; not to mention plenty to do on weekends and weekdays, so it's more of an errand-lets-finish-this-up-and-get-on-to-other-tasks and activities. Jen did get a shakedown ride on the Brooks B67 saddle though : ) So, in that regard, another fun season of Coffeeneuring has come to an end.  No the bridge is STILL NOT FIXED or our rides would have had more mileage to them.  There were some perfect riding conditions over the course of this coffeeneuring year--guess it's a blessing considering all the rain we had this summer.   Thanks for following along, and thanks again to Mary for keeping the candle lit on this one.  We always love our rides.  Ride 4.5 miles (heavy wind 25mph-30mph gusts from the east) 52 degrees Coffee - starbucks in the famed Blue angel cups to keep us warm....

Ride 6 - The Tree

Ride 6 - November 25, 2021; HAPPY THANKSGIVING RIDE  Ride six took us to a nearby favorite neighborhood park and tree that we've always hiked to.   The kiddos used to hang out there and kept it secret, so it's always fun for us to go since they entrusted us with their secret as adults.  It's always fun finding these places.   The turkey went on the smoker at 7:45 and we had about 4 hours to kill.  I checked the temp and it was holding steady at 225, so Jen and I decided to 'kill two birds' with one stone.  See what I did there? Ha.  It was a tandem day, although we should have rethunk that option since the trails were sandy and those 28mm conti's wouldn't have stayed upright in the soft sand.  It's OK.  We needed hiking steps too as our hike the holidays campaign started too :)   We found the tree after a short hike and 3 miles on the tandem, drank our Starbucks (from the previous haul) and headed back after enjoying...

Ride 5 - Abundance of Gift Cards

Ride 5-The Joy of  Gift Cards-November 14, 2021 When your wife has what appears to be an endless supply of Starbucks gift cards acquired over the last year, you re-up your stash.   This was literally our c+1 ride.  A chilly ride to the local starbucks to grab two bags of the expensive beans.  The Tandem worked out well for us today on our trip for not one bag of coffee, but two.  A 5 mile trip on the tandem. 61 degrees. 8 mile/hr wind.  Coffee Buzz: Zero, but saved for future use.

Ride 4-Another Boat Ramp ride

Image
Ride 4-November 7, 2021 Ride 4 brought out the colder weather with 63 degrees and a stiff head-wind Jen and I had plans to do things later in the day (Blue Angels homecoming) so we did a shorty to a local boat ramp. We parked the bikes on land this time, enjoyed the sun (especially after the wind died down) and rode back.  Ride 4.5 utilitarian style miles. Coffee buzz--regular.  no bikes on the dock today!

Ride 3 - Blue Angel Homecoming

Ride 3-Hallowheeling ride  October 30, 2021 We were lucky to be able to stay on the beach for a long weekend and a VRBO.  Jen and I planned on riding with friends on a sort-of 'pub crawl' dressed in Halloween costumes.  Unfortunately the pub crawl ride started at 10AM at a local bar.  I just can't do the early day drinking anymore--I would have been in bed at 4PM--and, with the Braves playing in the World Series, I wanted to stay awake later.  Coffeeneuring 3 was the thing to do this morning-party rides would happen later.  We decided to ride into the 20 mph wind for our 5+ mile ride to a local breakfast joint--the Native Cafe.  We each had our fill of coffee (Jen is not a fan of almond coconut creamer)--I grabbed a country oemlet and Jen had some gluten free pancakes for the win! The ride back was not any easier--this was the hardest ride so far, even though it was also the shortest  in miles.   waiting for a table Jen smiling, even th...

Ride 2-The Dunk

Ride 2 -- October 27, 2021 Our second ride of the season went swimmingly--literally.  Usually for the second ride of the season we ride to a local boat ramp around sundown--the nights are getting longer and the time change is on the horizon, so the rides will soon start to happen earlier, or on weekends only.  We rode approximately 8 miles today, again in perfect conditions--slight wind, about 72 degrees and a sun setting that made for a candy like sky.  Everyone was out on the docks for the sunset tonight.  We rode our bikes out to the end, set them on the kickstands, and sat on the doc to watch the sunset.  I'm glad it was warm outside and the water temp was still decent, because as soon as I got done taking the bike pics, my townie tilted and fell right in the water!  VERY luckily, my camera was around my neck and not in the bag on the back of the bike! The bike was easy to pull out of the water after being submerged about a minute, but the coveted...

Year NINE! Coffeeneuring 2021 C+1 edition

Image
Another Year of Coffeeneuring So 2020 has passed us by, thankfully, and 2021 has already came and has the rearview showing.   Jen and I have been doing these for our tenth year, and, with age, every ride seems to be a little more involved or can put more strain on the body than the year before.  We wanted to ride a lot of outside rides, and the weather has been more than friendly, with very little rain over the course of the C+1.  Ride 1--Opening Day Our first ride was on opening day--October 18, 2021.  We usually start our rides with a circuit near the house and a stop near the water.  Today we rode 11.5 miles in perfect 72 degree weather with very little wind.  We rode after work, were able to drink our carry along coffee and tea, and had the joy of viewing quite the dramatic sunset.  Caffeine effect: overload after drinking a pot over the course of the day.  Newly iron-on'd patches on the new canvas camera bag Water temperature was g...
